I hear this a lot. And I’m calling bullshit on it.
ME: So what are you resisting?
Nobody is resisting success.
If I handed you a Big Box of Success, overflowing with your business dreams, cash for Jimmy Choos, luxury yachts, pool boys, organic, raw chocolates, would you turn me down?
But … would you turn down this Big Box of Success if I told you what it would take to get there?
: You’ll have to put yourself WAY out there.
: You’ll make mistakes – you might even look foolish.
: Some people will stop liking you and say really mean things about you.
If you knew that to have your Big Box of Success it would take you years of hard work – and once you got there you’d still have to work your booty off – would you still want that Big Box of Success?
Well. For a lot of people, that’s … different. Isn’t it?
So let’s get it straight. Let’s call a spade, a spade. What you’re resisting isn’t success.
It’s the hard work, the guaranteed mistakes, and the potential loss of friends it will take to get there.
(Yes, you will lose people. Truth: Not everyone can handle being around a superstar.)
That part does suck.
But once you start achieving success on your own terms, it’s the best feeling in the world.
And the best part? Instead of resisting the scary things, you look forward to risks, awkward moments, screw-ups and your new Jimmy Choos.
